Paul Travers

President and CEO,Vuzix Corporation

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve dealt with over the past year?

One of our biggest challenges over the past year has been managing the growth of our business during a period still impacted by COVID, as well as one that has seen increasing competition for the best talent. We’ve made several strategic moves such as our new COO that have set Vuzix up for managing and scaling the company. We’ve been building our core team for years. There’s such a wealth of in-house knowledge that is critical in supporting not only our core products, but also our OEM optics business whichis an incredibly difficult area to master. This is our company’s 25-year anniversary; a testament to the many years it has taken to get this right and for the market to mature. It is exciting to see our products being used on a daily basis and around the world.

What has been your organization’s biggest success over the past year?

One of our biggest achievements over the past year has been completing and introducing Vuzix Shield, a revolutionary pair of microLED-powered AR/smart glasses that deliver high performance in a fashionable design. From the very start ourvision has been to create smart glasses that are indistinguishable from anyfashion forward pair of glasses — light, stylish and comfortable. Vuzix Shield delivers on those grounds for the enterprise markets. These are the glasses people want to wear, and they generate aone-of-a-kindvisual experience that looks like it’s floating right out in front of you. While other companies are making videos about what’s to come, Vuzix is putting it on people’s faces. There’s just no comparison with our position in the market.

What do you see as the biggest changes in the technology industry over the next year?

Regarding our addressed market within the technology industry, the biggest developments will center around us and others continuing to design and/or acquire to get ahead. As an OEM that also produces our own very mature product suite, we are not only meeting our own challenges, but helping other companies address their design and AR technology requirements. Ultimately, whether you’re out to buy our parts or our glasses, Vuzix is here to advance the AR industry.
