Many reasons to ‘Celebrate More’ in the year ahead

Rochester International Jazz Festival

Welcome to Rochester, where there is no limit to what you can do — and no reason to do it anywhere else.

After seemingly endless disruptions to every aspect of our lives over the past two years, Rochester residents and visitors alike are ready to come together and celebrate. And celebrations will abound throughout Rochester and Monroe County in the year ahead. In fact, throughout 2022 Visit Rochester is partnering with Monroe County on the celebration of Monroe County’s Bicentennial, under the banner of “Celebrate More!”

The celebration of the Monroe County bicentennial recognizes the proud history and the promising future of the County of Monroe. This celebration includes the return of existing events, several of which have not taken place since 2019, including festivals, concerts, parades and educational programming. Keep an eye out for Celebrate More themed festivals and events throughout 2022, and stay up-to-date with the bicentennial celebration at CelebrateMore200.com.

In addition to the celebration of Monroe County’s Bicentennial, there are many reasons to look forward and celebrate more in the year ahead.

In a city known for its festivals and special events (by our count Rochester hosts more than 140 festivals each year!), more festivals and events will be taking place this year since the start of the pandemic. Marquee Rochester events like the Rochester Lilac Festival, Rochester International Jazz Festival and the Rochester Fringe Festival will delight crowds from near and far. Be sure to also add weekend-long events like Fairport Canal Days, Corn Hill Arts Festival, Rochester Summer Soul Music Festival and the Clothesline Festival at the Memorial Art Gallery — among many others — to your calendar.

Rochester continues to gain national recognition for our food and drink scene. During your travels in the year ahead, celebrate more award-winning restaurants, breweries and wineries throughout Rochester and the Finger Lakes region. Celebrate the sights of these establishments once again bustling with visitors.

There is nothing like the magic of a live theatrical performance. Rochester has one of the most robust arts and theatre scenes in New York state outside of New York City. Seeing Rochester theatres filled with patrons taking in live performances is yet another reason to celebrate in the year ahead.

Rochester Lilac Festival

In November 2021, after being closed for more than 18 months, we celebrated the reopening of the U.S.-Canadian border. Rochester and its neighbors to the north enjoy a special relationship, and we look forward to welcoming back Canadian travelers to Rochester over the next year.

Above all, the last two years have demonstrated the tenacity and strength of the hospitality industry in the Greater Rochester area. Please be sure to visit and patronize our local restaurants, bars, hotels and other businesses who have kept their doors open during a turbulent time.

Perhaps the greatest thing we can celebrate more of this next year is YOU. Whether you will be visiting Rochester for the first time ever, or the first time in a while, we look forward to welcoming you to our community. And that is one of our favorite reasons to celebrate.
