Managing Partner, Mengel, Metzger, Barr & Co.

Years in current role: 8

What do you enjoy most about your role?

We have great people and great clients at MMB! Working with such a collaborative group of individuals is inspiring. The team environment we have at MMB has been and will continue to be the key to our continued growth and success. I am very proud to lead an organization that for nearly 50 years has given back to the community, provided sound advice to many of the great companies in our area, and continues to operate with an unwavering commitment to our values and at the highest integrity.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve dealt with over the past year?

The COVID pandemic! The pandemic has forever changed the way people think, work and communicate. We had the technology and infrastructure in place thankfully to move toward a more remote environment, but I believe the pandemic provided us the jump start we needed and likely accelerated this transition by at least two to three years.

What do you see as the biggest changes in the banking and finance industry in the next 3-5 years?

Specifically as it relates to the accounting industry, I envision the biggest changes to be the expanded role of artificial intelligence and data analytics, transformative technology and the continued move toward advisory services, succession planning and mergers and acquisition consulting.

What is the No. 1 tip you would give to people or companies about planning their finances amid uncertain times?

Stick to a long-term plan. Drastic short-term emotional moves can really cripple your overall financial plan both personally and professionally.

What community organizations do you support as a volunteer and why?

I have been fortunate enough to be involved with such great organizations like the Ronald McDonald House, Golisano Children’s Hospital and the FF Thompson Health System. I also take great pride in participating in MMB’s Day of Caring where we close the office down for the day and volunteer for multiple nonprofit organizations in our community.
