Ithaca, a fast-growing hummus brand with headquarters in downtown Rochester, has expanded distribution to all 506 Whole Foods Market locations nationwide.
“We were thrilled with the results from our regional expansion last year at Whole Foods and are very grateful for the opportunity to solidify our position as the premium brand in their category,” said Ithaca Founder Chris Kirby in a statement. “I’m so proud of our team for their hard work, shattering velocity expectations and earning the confidence of our partners at Whole Foods.”
Ithaca was created in 2013 by Kirby, a chef, as a stand at the Ithaca Farmers Market. The brand offers eight chef-inspired varieties that showcase bold, intense flavors including its newest additions lemon garlic, lemon dill and lemon beet. The brand can be found in more than 8,200 stores nationwide including Wegmans Food Markets Inc., Target and more.
“We got our start as a brand selling into, and tirelessly sampling, some of the most iconic Whole Foods locations in Manhattan, one-by-one back in 2016,” Kirby said. “The opportunity to drive incremental growth and excitement in the category for Whole Foods on a national scale is an absolute dream come true.”
Officials said the company is expecting a second surge of its hummus as converging trends for plant-based and dips continues to soar. In 2021, Ithaca expanded its distribution into Sprouts, Safeway Seattle, Shaw’s and Market Basket.
