President & CEO, Indus Hospitality Group

Years in current role: 20+

What do you enjoy most about your role?

No two days are the same for me and my team — we are presented with new challenges and opportunities daily. I have always believed there is no growth without risk and this past year has not stopped me from looking for and procuring numerous projects where we can deliver a quality product and service to the community.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve dealt with over the past year?

Despite the pandemic, we have been fortunate to keep things as close to “business as usual” as possible. Adapting to the new norm and being nimble is a culture we have embraced, in addition to focusing on details of each project and planning vigorously.

What do you see as the biggest changes in the real estate and construction industries in the next 3-5 years?

In real estate there is less demand for office and retail space, and more for industrial, warehouse and manufacturing usage. In construction, while there have been shortages in materials, skills gaps in trades and heightened material prices, we are seeing a shift toward sustainable development in both materials and practices.

What community organizations do you support as a volunteer and why?

Supporting the communities in which we operate and develop is important to me as an individual — and I encourage and empower my team to do the same for what they are passionate for. Organizations that I support personally surround education, arts & culture and promoting economic development.

What are you most looking forward to doing as COVID restrictions ease?

Much of my time was filled with traveling, seeing new places and exploring new opportunities. Getting back on the road and in the air to connect with others and collaborate face to face will mean much more going forward.
