Sands followed his father, Marvin, and older brother, Richard, at the helm of Constellation Brands after serving in a variety of roles since joining the company in 1986. He was named president and CEO in 2007 and the company reported nearly $4 billion in sales the following year. By 2018, Constellation’s revenue had more than doubled to more than $8 billion.
Sands, who was inducted into the Rochester Business Hall of Fame in 2017, stepped down as CEO and became executive chair in March 2019.
Sands is board chair for the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce and New York Kitchen. He also serves on the board for Pace University, where he received his J.D.
