Chairman, Buckingham Properties
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Patience. Cannot stress enough the importance that great achievements take time and better decisions often just require a good night’s sleep. Also, understanding that great leaders don’t necessarily make all the decisions.
What’s been your biggest success?
Keeping the Buckingham family intact during some very challenging times. My team’s loyalty and commitment during those years provided me the opportunity to make some mistakes while growing into my current leadership role.
Who have been the biggest mentors in your career?
Architectural speaking, Robert AM Stern was a huge influence on my design career. Extensive research and understanding past precedents are key pieces on how he approaches any project and that really stuck with me. My father will always be the most influential person in my life and I am so grateful for the relationship we had. Despite his ever-reaching professional goals, he always made time for me, as both mentor and parent.
What are your hopes for the Rochester community this year?
I hope the momentum we were experiencing prior to the pandemic continues to bring people downtown and that will help provide some togetherness amongst the Rochester community.
What do you do to unplug in your free time?
Always happy when I’m on a trail, hiking away my worries.
