Alliance Director, ROC the Future
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
The same lesson that I’ve learned and try to live in my life, which is that relationships matter! We must be able to develop relationships in any space and with all people! It is the cornerstone of humanity, and without them, you cannot be fully human.
What’s been your biggest success?
Without a doubt our daughters — all four of them, the two that I birthed and the two I’ve shared with other mothers!
Who have been the biggest mentors in your career?
My mother, Mary Evadney Thompson; my mother-in-law, M. Frances Campbell; and City Council President Loretta C. Scott.
What are your hopes for the Rochester community this year?
That we take critical steps to eliminate systemic and structural racism, instead of just talking about it. We need to do more to undo unjust laws, policies and practices, and seriously address how resources are allocated.
What do you do to unplug in your free time?
What’s free time? But seriously: reading, puzzles and playing Sudoku and Mahong!
