Managing Partner, Harter Secrest & Emery LLP
Years in current role: 6 years as managing partner; 23 years as a partner
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
The most important lesson is that everything we do is centered on building and nurturing relationships, with clients, with my partners and colleagues, and others. Staying in touch with people, and building trust and confidence by working hard and keeping your promises, forms the foundation of strong relationships.
What’s been your biggest success?
Professionally, having the opportunity to lead a firm that I care deeply about, in a way that preserves and respects our values and our unique culture. But really my biggest successes are personal — my marriage and my daughters Jessica and Rebecca, both of whom are thriving and happy in their lives.
What do you do to unplug in your free time?
My wife Siobhan and I spend nearly all of our free time at our home on 4th Lake in Inlet, New York. Otherwise, I spend time with friends and family, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills as a nearly 30-year season ticket holder.
