Chief Executive Officer, The Lifetime Healthcare Companies (which includes Excellus BlueCross BlueShield)
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
The most important lesson I learned is a simple one: spend a lot more time listening than talking. Then really think about what you hear. You can’t really understand what is going on in a large organization without being accessible and listening intently to what people want to share.
What’s been your biggest success?
Improvement in the culture of our organization. Upon becoming CEO, I believed that creating a more engaged and motivated workforce that cared about the company and its mission was key to continued success in a rapidly changing health care environment. We made culture change a top priority and our improved culture has led to improved business results.
What do you do to unplug in your free time?
The pandemic has obviously limited some free time activities. However, I exercise every day and love to read, mostly history and thrillers. I look forward to resuming travel and attending music concerts after life returns to normal.
