Founder/Chairman, CloudCheckr
Years in current role: 10
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Fortitudine Vincimus (latin for “By Endurance We Conquer”) was the family motto of Ernest Shackleton. The key to success at most tasks and life is perseverance, grit and hard work. And taking lots of risks.
What’s been your biggest success?
Building CloudCheckr, creating hundreds of jobs for the region, and making the people around me successful there, was my biggest success.
Who have been the biggest mentors in your career?
I have aspired to be like Ernest Shackleton. In my career, I have had many mentors. My business partner Aaron Klein and an investor friend Code Cubbit are two examples.
What are your hopes for the Rochester community this year?
We need a strong year here. Through a nonprofit I started, ScaleFLX, we are hoping to bring high tech and software jobs to Rochester. We need to focus on transforming our local economy for the next generation.
What do you do to unplug in your free time?
I unplug in the mountains. I am working on the climbing the Seven Summits, the tallest peak on each of the continents. Two years ago, I got to Camp 2 on Everest and I’m going to Denali in Alaska this May. I also enjoy arguing politics with strangers on Facebook.
