Heritage Christian Services to host virtual 100-minute race
Like many other organizations that have had to postpone or hold virtual events rather than planned face-to-face gatherings, Heritage Christian Services plans to host an alternative fundraising event, the Stronger Together Virtual Race.
Facing a $4 million loss in revenue from temporary program closures, the nonprofit agency that provides programs and services to the area’s intellectually and developmentally disabled will host a virtual 100-minute race that begins May 1 and ends May 3.
Participants have their choice of running, biking or walking as many miles as they are able to in 100 minutes. The event’s $100,000 goal will help sustain the agency’s recovery throughout the COVID-19 crisis, officials said.
Hundreds of individuals supported by the agency have been displaced from the day habilitation and respite programs that have temporarily suspended services due to the pandemic. But the agency has several more critical needs, officials said, including masks, gowns and gloves for frontline workers; supporting and maintaining staffing levels and paying overtime; and recovering the loss of revenue due to suspended programs.
