The American Diabetes Association has decided to postpone its annual 2020 Tour de Cure: Rochester due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, originally scheduled for June 13, will now take place on Sat., Oct. 3 at the Xerox Holdings Corp. complex in Webster.
“We recognize that many in our community are concerned about COVID-19, but we want you to rest assured that here at the ADA we are being cautious, conservative and consistent as we monitor the situation,” said ADA Executive Director Bob Russell in a statement Thursday. “The health and safety of those we serve is our top priority, and though we feel it is in our community’s best interest to delay the Tour de Cure: Rochester, we are excited to welcome our strong community of supporters to join us on Oct. 3.”
The annual event is sponsored by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and aims to raise $1.3 million locally. Tour de Cure: Rochester is the ADA’s largest fundraising event each year.
Tour de Cure features a 100 mile, 63 mile, 40 mile, 25 mile, 12 mile, or 3.5 mile ride for cyclists, as well as a 3.5 mile walk or run. Participants can register at the organization’s website.
