Iconic IT combats COVID-related cybersecurity threats with new platform

Iconic IT, formerly Capstone IT, announces a new security platform for clients for free for 60 days to protect businesses against vulnerabilities in cybersecurity during the COVID-19 crisis.

Iconic Fortify is a combination of artificial intelligence-based antivirus software and security operations center (SOC). The SOC is watched over 24/7 by technicians who are scanning all alerts to decipher if they are positive or a false positive.

“AI is incapable of discernment. That means that AI can produce false positives, resulting in a catastrophic network collapse,” Iconic IT director of technology Matt Lee said in a statement. “The SOC adds an important feature to AI: human discernment.”

Iconic IT has seen cybersecurity threats evolving amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, using some familiar methods like phishing and website spoofing, but using them in new ways, such as:

  • Fake pandemic maps
  • Emails pretending to be from governmental sources with updates
  • COVID-19 “updated policies and procedures” from a company’s “HR department”
  • Promises of coronavirus cures and vaccines

Installation of Iconic Fortify will not affect companies’ networks. The only action that clients must take is rebooting the laptop or computer at the end of the day after installation is complete.

Businesses that are not customers of Iconic IT are encouraged by the company to reach out to see if they qualify for the new security platform.

“We want to make sure we roll Iconic Fortify out now, especially with so many remote workers adding security risks,” CEO Mike Fowler said. “It’s all about protecting our clients now; we can’t stand still while cybercrime is evolving. At the same time, we understand that businesses aren’t prioritizing things like IT and cybersecurity, but we want to do our part to help keep businesses up and running.”
