How to surrender license plates with DMV closed

The four Department of Motor Vehicles locations in Monroe County (Greece, Irondequoit, Henrietta and Rochester) will be closed indefinitely for all in-person transactions.

There was an automatic extension of validity on driver’s licenses and non-driver identification cards that expired on or after March 1.

However, all vehicles still must have valid insurance and inspection certificates.

There is new drop-box protocol for surrendering license plates. Plates can be surrendered at the Irondequoit DMV (545 Titus Ave.) and the rear entrance to the County Office Building (39 W. Main St.). Each location will have plate surrender forms, which also are available online.

The county website provides information and policy updates with regard to the coronavirus.
