Kevin Momot has been named publisher and sales director of the Rochester Business Journal and The Daily Record.

Kevin Momot is proof that you can go “home.”

Six years after leaving The Daily Record, Momot has returned. Only this time, instead of overseeing operations for just one publication, he’ll be publisher and sales director of both the Rochester Business Journal and The Daily Record.

“I was there almost 10 years and once it gets in your blood, you miss it,” said Momot, a native Rochesterian who began his new duties Tuesday. “Everything in the industry I loved. I missed the interactions, those relationships you form in the community and all that goes with that role.”

He returns to the publishing world after spending six years at AppealTech in Rochester, where he served as appellate counsel for the appellate service provider.

Now back in publishing, Momot wants to help the RBJ and TDR strengthen their footholds in the business and legal communities while forming even greater partnerships.

“First and foremost, I don’t think we should fix anything that isn’t broken, and there are a lot of things that are working well,” Momot, 42, said. “People know the quality of the publications and that’s a huge foundation to start from.

“Expanding our readership is at the forefront of what we do. This is a digital age, but people still embrace the print edition, so we want to bring all of that to our readers in a way that’s most convenient. And we want to expand our events and the partnerships we create.”

Momot originally joined The Daily Record in 2004 as editor, then transitioned to publishing director before taking over as publisher in 2007. A 1995 graduate of Rush-Henrietta High School, he earned his undergraduate degree from the University at Buffalo in 1999 and a law degree from the School of Law at UB in 2002.

“I am excited to welcome Kevin back to The Daily Record and to the Rochester Business Journal,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, group publisher for parent company BridgeTower Media. “Kevin has a resume that includes a law degree, various media roles in writing, editing, sales and leadership, and appellate court work.”

That range of experience will serve him well as he works with the editorial staff to bring essential business and legal news to readers while working closely with clients on marketing opportunities that will enhance their brands and grow their businesses.

“Kevin will bring innovative ideas and strong relationships to our team,” Fischer-Huettner said. “I am personally excited to work with Kevin again, since we worked together for nine years during his time as publisher of The Daily Record. He is a dynamic leader with a proven record of success.”

Fischer-Huettner will remain focused on her duties overseeing the Rochester Business Journal and The Daily Record as group publisher, working closely with Momot and the rest of the Rochester office. She also oversees BridgeTower Media markets in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Momot and his wife, Yelann, live in Webster with daughters Evelyn, 6, and April, 3.
