Construction is underway on Oakwood Hills, a Ryan Homes development in Batavia that will feature 56 single-family houses.

Homes in the new residential community on the city’s east side will range in size from 1,483 square feet to 2,190 square feet, and figure into Genesee County’s Smart Growth development plan.

A 2018 market analysis identified the need for new single-family homes, according to the Genesee County Economic Development Center. The analysis projects a housing demand for more than 1,100 new homes by 2040.

“As we learned from our housing needs assessment, the rise of new businesses and attractions locating in Genesee County over the next 20 years will lead to a rapidly growing demand for new housing options,” Felipe Oltramari, director of the county’s planning department, said in a news release.
