Throughout his career, Durfee has shown a passion for applying timeless, classic design principles to contemporary projects. His expertise in historic rehabilitation and restoration helped transform neglected structures into community assets.

Among the projects he worked on: the City of Rochester’s Public Safety Building, the University of Rochester’s Witmer House and the American Cancer Society’s B. Thomas Golisano Hope Lodge.

“Jim’s commitment to his profession and community can be seen in the buildings he designed and the organizations he supported,” Bergmann CEO Pete Giovenco said. “We thank Jim for his years of service to our clients, mentorship to our staff and leadership in the community.”

Durfee received the Medal of Distinction from the American Institute of Architects Rochester in 2013. He has served as president of the AIA Rochester and the Memorial Art Gallery.

Durfee, who has a master’s degree in architecture from Columbia University, will remain active with Bergmann as a staff consultant, as well as in the community with his numerous civic activities.
