See how local schools rank on US News annual college ranking list

Surely one of the math scholars at the University of Rochester or at Rochester Institute of Technology could figure out the odds of both local universities tying for 50th on US News & World Report’s list for national universities recommended by high school counselors.

Perhaps they could also figure out how St. Mary’s College in Indiana and St. Mary’s College of Maryland tied twice—once for 89th place on the high school counselor recommendation list of 281 schools and a second time for 95th place on the overall list of 312 schools.

US News slices and dices its survey information annually in a slew of “best of” college and university lists, including best liberal arts colleges, best business schools, and and overall best national university list. The magazine defines a national university as one offering a full range of academic majors at the undergraduate level, along with master’s and doctoral programs and a commitment “to groundbreaking research.”

In the overall listing of best national schools, the University of Rochester ranked 33rd and obtained a score of 70 out of 100.  Rochester Institute of Technology ranked 102nd, with a score of 50 out of 100.

UR also ranked 13th out of 105 for best colleges for veterans and 23rd out of 145 in the category of best value.

RIT scored 59th out of 206 for best undergraduate engineering programs, and 43rd for best value.

St. John Fisher College also qualified for the national university listing—it has three doctoral programs—ranking at 152nd, with an overall score of 40 out of 100.

Nazareth College was 35th out of 196 for best regional universities in the north. It also was ranked 17th for best schools for veterans, and 31st for best value, with an overall score of 68 out of 100.
