On display at the Memorial Art Gallery are The Surreal Visions of Josephine Tota. Tota was a first-generation Italian immigrant who worked as a local seamstress. She discovered painting in her early seventies to depict reflections of her difficult past. She produced evocative work for 10 years before succumbing to dementia.
