This is WALL\THERAPY’s seventh year, and co-curators Ian Wilson (founder) and Erich Lehman (lead organizer) are opting for a more intimate experience for the artist. With this year’s smaller group of artists, they will convey the stories of our communities with the theme “Representation.”

“An important part of the WALL\THERAPY experience are the artists’ interactions with Rochester’s communities and the people who live within them—it informs what they paint and in turn can change the face of a neighborhood,” says Wilson. “It’s important to connect with the people within the neighborhoods and represent the issues that matter to them.”

In addition to visiting the artists’ walls and tracking their progress, the public is invited to the Annual Arts & Activism Conference from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 28 at the Visual Studies Workshop.

“Art is a platform for expressing ideas, and it can play a meaningful role in telling the collective stories of our communities,” says Lehman. “We want to give back to this city that we believe in so deeply by supporting the creation of public art that shares these stories with the world.”

The six featured artists are: Vincent Ballentine, Joe Blens, Nico Cathcart, Alice Mizrachi and Salut, who’s from Rochester.

The program runs through July 29. wall-therapy.com
