From startup to benefactor (access required)

The story of Austin McChord and Datto is a feel-good tale from start to sale. McChord founded the data-protection company before he graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology. This week, having sold the company to Vista Equity Partners, McChord donated $50 million to the university that nurtured his idea. McChord, who said his “success today would not have been possible without my time at RIT,” designated the money to help encourage creativity and entrepreneurship and to boost the university’s study of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
