Monroe County deserves assistance (access required)

President Donald Trump on Tuesday declared Lake Ontario’s shoreline a disaster area, allowing federal funds to be used to help the area recover from flooding that took place earlier this year. The designation allows state, local and tribal governments—and some nonprofit groups—to apply for federal money for emergency work and to repair or replace damaged facilities. Six shoreline counties in New York qualified for the assistance—Jefferson, Niagara, Orleans, Oswego, St. Lawrence and Wayne. Monroe and Cayuga counties, however, were not deemed eligible.
