The Eastman School of Music is gearing up for its fall series of free performances.
Eastman at Washington Square will perform eight lunchtime concerts beginning Oct. 19 at the First Universalist Church on South Clinton Avenue and Court Street. The performances will feature a wide variety of chamber music ensembles, performing works from Rachmaninoff to Shostakovich to spirituals from Zimbabwe.
Each half-hour informal concert will feature Eastman School of Music and Eastman Community Music School faculty, students, alumni and friends of the school. The concerts begin at 12:15 p.m.
The series was launched in 1994 by leaders from the Eastman School of Music and the First Universalist Church. The first director of the series was Eastman Community Music School piano instructor Howard Spindler; the current director is Irina Lupines, instructor in accompanying at the Eastman School of Music and instructor in piano for the Eastman Community Music School.
