Conferences draw thousands to Rochester before Labor Day

Rochester will bring thousands of visitors to the area before Labor Day due to major conferences being held in the city.

The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry meets from Aug. 25-30 and will attract 2,500 visitors to Rochester, and the Drum Corps Associates World Championships will return to the area Sept. 1-3, attracting 7,500 attendees.

Other conferences this summer have included:

  • the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses with 5,000 visitors over two weekends;
  • Church Ushers Association of New York State with 1,200 visitors;
  • Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with 500 visitors;
  • Empire Baptist Missionary Convention of New York with 1,600 visitors; and
  • the Northeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives  with 350 visitors.

Last year the total economic impact of the hospitality and tourism industry in Monroe County exceeded $1 billion, according to Visit Rochester.
