Bergmann Associates gets new CEO

bergmann_petegiovenco_headshotBergmann Associates has appointed Pietro Giovenco as CEO, officials announced Tuesday.

Giovenco is the third person to take the helm of the architectural and engineering firm. He has served as president for the past nine months and he will remain in that role as well as serving as CEO.

“My goal will be to leverage the entrepreneurial spirit that started this company and combine it with the discipline, grit and determination that continues to make us a great firm,” Giovenco said in a statement. “To that end, I hope to leave this company to the next leader in an even a stronger position.”

Giovenco started out as a project manager at the firm. He takes the role of CEO over from Thomas Mitchell who held the post for 14 years.

Mitchell will stay on as executive vice president for client relations and business development, officials said.

“I want to thank Tom for his tremendous efforts over the past 14 years,” Giovenco said. “He has been a captain with a steady hand and everyone on board this ship has felt safe, confident and informed during his tenure.”

Bergmann Associates employs 400 people, including 200 in Rochester.

Giovenco was selected as CEO by the Bergmann Associates board of directors, who are elected by the stockholders. Bergmann Associates is an employee-owned organization.

“I have had my eye on Pete since the day I joined Bergmann Associates almost 16 years ago,” Mitchell said. “I recognized his untapped potential, and now I am both proud and delighted to turn the leadership of the company over to him.”
