Wilmorite Inc. has purchased the Macy’s building at Marketplace Outlets as part of the mall’s conversion to an outlet center, officials said Tuesday.
The Macy’s building and parcel are key to attracting signature outlet retailers to the project. Initial plans include a partial demolition of the front of the building to make way for two freestanding restaurants, a new entrance to the mall and retailers surrounding each side of the common areas.
Among other developments taking place at Marketplace over the next few months, Express and Loft will convert their stores to outlet formats. Express Factory will relocate from the Dick’s Sporting Goods wing to Center Court, across from the new Victoria’s Secret. Loft will convert and remodel to Loft Outlet in place in the Dick’s Sporting Goods wing.
Both stores are slated to open this summer. The outlet retailers currently at the location include New York & Company Outlet, Aéropostale Factory and Children’s Place Outlet.
“These positive announcements further demonstrate the strength of the Marketplace location, the dynamic Rochester market and the commitment from Wilmorite to transform the center into a regional outlet shopping destination,” said David Hinkle, principal of the Outlet Resource Group, outlet retail experts working with Wilmorite to transform the Marketplace Mall to Marketplace Outlets.
