Joe Beard, Uncle Roger and Samuel Adler are among 2017 inductees to the Rochester Music Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.
The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. April 30 in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre.
Receiving honors this year are:
- Samuel Adler: The celebrated classical composer was a professor of composition at Eastman School of Music from 1966 to 1995. His more than 400 published compositions have been performed around the world.
- Joe Beard: The revered blues guitarist and vocalist has played with a who’s who of musicians, including legends Muddy Waters, B.B. King and Son House.
- Gary Lewis: The 1960s hitmaker with Gary Lewis and the Playboys topped the charts with eight gold singles and 17 Top 40 hits.
- Uncle Roger McCall: The pioneer radio DJ supported Rochester’s local music scene as host of the “Homegrown” radio show. He was at WCMF from 1973 to 2003.
- Lewis Soloff: The Grammy-winning trumpeter studied at Eastman School of Music and was part of Blood Sweat and Tears for five albums.
- Greg Sullivan: As owner of the Penny Arcade, Sullivan was a big supporter of local music. The Charlotte club was one of Rochester’s longest-running live music venues.
