MCC to unveil $4.8 million theater renovation

Monroe Community College is slated to unveil its newly renovated theater on Friday.

The $4.8 million renovation was funded by Monroe County and the State University of New York.

The project included updates to the seating, acoustics, lighting, stage floor and ventilation system.

The 539-seat theatre is located in Building 4 on the Brighton campus. It is equipped with a scene shop, two dressing rooms and a stage that measures 37-feet wide and 30-feet deep with a 37-foot proscenium thrust stage.

“Our student actors and technicians are eager to learn the new lighting and sound systems,” said Heather Chang, theater program director. “They can’t wait to perform in the space that’s been designed with optimum acoustics in mind.”

In addition to serving students in MCC’s visual and performing arts programs, the theater is available to rent for performances and company meetings.
