RIT names new president

Rochester Institute of Technology has named David Munson Jr. as the university’s 10th president, officials announced Wednesday morning.

Munson succeeds William Destler, who has held the post for the past decade. Destler plans to retire on June 30. Munson is slated to start as president July 1.

Munson has nearly four decades of experience in higher education, most recently serving as the Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering at the University of Michigan from 2006 to 2016. He served two five-year terms, the most allowed by the university. Michigan Engineering is considered one of the top engineering schools in the world, RIT officials noted. Eight of its academic departments are ranked in the nation’s top 10.
