Upstate Venture Association gets new executive director

The Upstate Venture Association of New York has a new executive director.

Noa Simons, who most recently worked as a partner at TD Growth Capital Ltd., takes over the helm of the Pittsford-based private-equity membership organization after the departure of Sam Ticknor.

“We are incredibly excited to have found Noa,” said Jennifer Tegan, president of the UVANY board of directors, in a statement. “She has the right background, passion and fortitude to continue to drive home the message that Upstate New York is a great place to invest private capital in companies at all stages of their growth and development.”

Simons is the founding manager of the Hudson Valley Startup Fund LLC, a seed capital fund formed in 2015 to provide seed funding and mentorship to entrepreneurs. She has more than 15 years of experience as an investor and entrepreneur, and spent over a decade in Boston and Shanghai in venture capital.

UVANY is a statewide organization meant to drive more venture capital and private equity to upstate New York. UVANY members include angel, seed, venture capital and private-equity managers and startups seeking that money.
