Xerox Corp. is closing its supply distribution center in Webster on Aug. 29, the company said Wednesday.
The 48 workers there will be laid off.
Six of those employees are full-time workers; the other 42 are those with Industrial Work Force, which are represented in Monroe County by Local 14A.
Xerox is also closing a similar facility in Cerritos, Calif., where 39 people work.
In a statement, Xerox said the closures are part of ongoing restructuring activities.
“Business today requires greater flexibility and the need to remain competitive,” a Xerox spokesman said, in a statement. “As a result, we are planning to close our consumable supplies warehouses in Webster and Cerritos and partner with a third-party logistics provider to manage those operations.”
In January, Xerox announced it would separate into two stand-alone companies—a document technology company composed of its document technology and document outsourcing businesses and a business process outsourcing company.
The separation is on track to be completed by the end of this year. The document technology company will offer document management and document outsourcing capabilities. The firm will have $11 billion in 2015 revenue.
