Student entrepreneurs compete in competition at UR

Aspiring student entrepreneurs at the University of Rochester presented their business models to a panel of judges during the 10th annual Mark Ain Business Model Competition on Wednesday.

The first-place award went to the 0Limits team, which provides the Everywhere Pen, the world’s first device-neutral, precise, write-virtually-anywhere smartpen. The team received $10,000.

The team consisted of Facundo Ciancio from Buenos Aires, Argentina; Ian Lin from Taipei, Taiwan; Alvise Pallaro, from Venice, Italy; and David Thomas, from Fort Washington, Md.

Second place, with $2,500 prize, went to StimSense, which offers a medical device that objectively quantifies depth of anesthesia throughout surgery to guide proper dosing, reduce post-operative complications and achieve better patient recoveries.

The team consisted of Martin Gitomer, from Princeton, N.J.; Alin Ponici, from Livingston, N.J.; Shwe Pyie, from Union City, Calif.; and Jia Shi, from Shanghai, China.

Third place, with a $1,000 prize, went to Endogenesis, with its label-free, real time, in–vivo cancer detection.

The team consisted of Aaron Allen; Ryan Dawes; Benjamin Feifke and Anchal Sharma.

The competition is open to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students universitywide. This year, 18 interdisciplinary teams of 60 students representing the College of Arts and Sciences, the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Simon Business School submitted applications to the competition.
