Two area food companies form partnership

Two local businesses have joined forces to give restaurants and other companies a better way to purchase local, sustainable meats sourced directly from local farms.

Headwater Foods Inc., through its Headwater Food Hub, and McCann’s Local Meats announced the partnership Monday.

Headwater, founded in 2008, connects grocers, institutions and others with homegrown foods from a network of partner farms and local food producers. Headwater’s services include supply chain management, distribution and sales.

McCann’s is a locally sourced butcher located in the South Wedge that Headwater will be assisting under the new partnership.

Headwater also announced Monday it was using a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to purchase lettuce washing and chopping processing equipment.

The purchase and installation of this equipment will make Headwater the largest local, organic lettuce distributor in New York, the company said.

“With the new equipment, we can now further support bigger clients like local schools, universities, and institutions,” said Chris Hartman, Headwater president in a statement.
