Young Women’s College Prep, Rochester’s first all-girls charter school, announced its relocation Wednesday to a building better suited to its growing size and program needs.
The school, located on Flower City Park, will move in August to The Summer Sands Campus, at 133 Hoover Drive in Greece, officials said.
The new facility, which previously was owned by the Greece Central School District, features a full-size gymnasium, modern science labs, music and art classrooms, lockers for every student, a new food service program and sports fields.
YWCP’s leadership, staff and curriculum will remain the same, officials said.
“Our girls are college bound. This new home will provide all the high school amenities to support this focus,” said Toyia Wilson, principal of Young Women’s College Prep. “We are committed to knowing every student personally, intellectually and emotionally, and this is possible in a small school environment. As our school grows, we need more space. This new facility will allow our students to continue to thrive and prepare for college, careers and their future.”
YWCP opened in 2012 with 81 seventh-grade students. It has expanded to seventh through tenth grade, and currently enrolls 260 students.
