RIT meets challenge for $1M endowed fund

Rochester Institute of Technology has met the challenge to establish a $1 million endowed fund to support undergraduate research in its College of Science.

University leaders announced Monday a challenge grant from the Fred L. Emerson Foundation, along with commitments from more than 100 donors, will allow RIT to double the number of undergraduate students conducting full-time scientific research during the summer.

The Emerson Foundation offered to give the university a $250,000 challenge grant contingent upon RIT raising the remaining $750,000 in new gifts and pledges by Oct. 1. The challenge was met Oct. 30.
