Officials gathered Friday afternoon for a groundbreaking at Eastman Gardens, a senior affordable housing community constructed at the site of the former Eastman Dental Dispensary on East Main Street.
The roughly $15 million project is being developed by Eastman Gardens Associates LLC, an entity created by Home Leasing LLC. An August opening is targeted.
It is part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s $1 billion statewide House NY program, whose goal is to create or preserve 14,300 affordable housing units by 2018.
Eastman Gardens will have 52 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments for seniors 55 years and older. Monthly rents will range from $625 to $900, depending on income qualifications and apartment size.
The property will offer pet-friendly, cable-ready apartments, on-site laundry facilities, interior storage and a community room, officials said.
