City seeks developer for Midtown parcel

The city of Rochester is looking for developers to fill out the Parcel 2 site at the Midtown Rising site.

The city late Wednesday issued a request for proposals for the development of the 0.79 acre site at 260 E. Broad St.

Parcel 2 is located on the site of the former Midtown Plaza and corresponds roughly to the site of the former building containing a Wegmans Food Markets Inc. store, the city said.

The city aims to find a project that would increase the tax base, create construction jobs for city residents along with women and minorities, create new and permanent job opportunities downtown and incorporate a mix of uses “that strengthen the urban fabric.”
“The release of this request for proposals is an exciting phase in the Midtown Rising project,” said Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren. “After years of planning, design, demolition and now with the construction of the Windstream offices complete and the construction of Tower280 and Gannett offices underway, the Midtown site is generating a new set of investment opportunities in the heart of our downtown.”

The city is accepting proposals through Nov. 13.
