New residential construction soars in the Northeast

The number of privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in the Northeast during the first seven months of 2015 jumped 51.9 percent over the prior year’s figure, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Tuesday. The Northeast also outpaced the U.S. average and other regions in year-over-year percent increase of July housing starts, and units still under construction at the end of the month.
