Golisano invests in Buffalo-based tablet manufacturer Bak USA

Paychex Inc. founder and chairman Thomas Golisano is investing in a Buffalo-based tablet manufacturer—the first of its kind in the United States.

Bak USA LLC announced Monday its partnership with the billionaire, who will lend what company officials call “strategic and valuable assistance.” His investment, which was not disclosed, also will allow the company to reach its sales goal of 80,000 tablets before the year’s end.

The company, which was approved under Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Start-Up NY program, produces tablets customized for their business, health care and educational clients.

Golisano said he was proud to partner with the company.

“Having these tablets produced in Buffalo is yet another sign that American workers can compete with anyone in the world,” he said.

His investment will help the company increase its workforce to meet the demand, Golisano added.
“This investment will help Bak increase their workforce to 100 within the next year and up to 267 within the coming years,” Golisano noted. “The tablets will also help combat illiteracy and unequal access to educational materials worldwide. I’m excited to be a part of this team and I look forward to helping them grow.”
