Ralph Wilson’s wife, Mary, takes control of Bills

Mary Wilson, the wife of the late Ralph Wilson Jr., has assumed control of the Buffalo Bills and will run the franchise until it is sold, team officials announced Thursday.

A process will be established at an appropriate time for the sale of the franchise, an article on the team’s website states. The process will ensure the organization complies with National Football League rules and to its obligations to New York State and Erie County.

The organization plans to have detailed discussions with the NFL, the state and county, and others regarding the timing and structure of any sales process, the article states. The front office and coaching staff will not be changed during the transition process.

“I have complete confidence in Russ Brandon, our president and CEO, to continue his duties of running the organization,” Mary Wilson said. “General Manager Doug Whaley and Head Coach Doug Marone remain empowered by Russ to run the football operation.”

Ralph Wilson died March 25 at his home in suburban Detroit. He was 95.
