Rochester Optical has been tapped for a Department of Defense contract worth up to $50 million, Sen. Charles Schumer announced Thursday.
Under the contract, the Rochester firm will make optical frames for the military. The deal is based on the military’s needs over the next three years, Schumer said.
“This military contract is great news for Rochester jobs and only furthers the area’s reputation as a leader in optic technology and manufacturing,” said Schumer, D-N.Y., in a statement.
Rochester Optical is a manufacturer and wholesaler of fashion and military eyewear and lenses. The firm employs roughly 200 workers, including 160 employees at its Lyell Avenue headquarters.
