Penfield commercial builder adds division

A Penfield commercial builder this week announced a new division devoted to restaurant and retail construction.

Taylor, the Builders, a DBA of R-J Taylor General Contractors Inc., calls the new division Empire Commercial Construction. To staff it, the firm recruited retail specialists to serve local and national clients.

“The nature of retail construction requires a nimbler contractor with a lower overhead structure. But in many cases this has led to sacrifices in project safety or reliability,” CEO James Taylor said in a statement Tuesday. “With our model at Empire, we will maintain our established levels of quality and service while hitting a competitive price point that the market demands.”

Taylor already does commercial, industrial, health care and multifamily construction projects in the Southern Tier, New England, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina. The company ranks eight on the Rochester Business Journal’s 2010 list of commercial builders with $31.9 million in annual sales and 40 total employees.
