Iberdrola cuts 40 jobs at RG&E

Iberdrola USA on Friday eliminated some 140 workers in the Northeast, including 40 from Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. here and 40 from New York State Electric & Gas Corp. statewide, the company announced.

RG&E and NYSEG are Iberdrola USA subsidiaries.

The cuts were made to align its operations with current business needs and economic conditions, the company said.

RG&E employed 950 as of May 2009. The cuts reduce Iberdrola’s Northeast work force to some 5,560, the company said.

The cuts were necessary because of the recession and costs associated with operating and maintaining complex energy delivery systems, company officials said.
