Sands family, Constellation give $4 million to RGH

Rochester General Hospital has been given $4 million on behalf of the Sands family and Constellation Brands Inc.

It is the largest gift received by the hospital from the Sands family and Victor-based firm.

The gift was presented by Robert Sands, Constellation president and CEO and the immediate past chairman of Rochester General Health System.
“RGH plays a vital role in serving the health care needs of the Rochester community on a day-to-day basis,” said Sands in a statement. “It is a superb high-tech hospital, a leader in minimally invasive robotic surgery, a pioneer in cardiac care and leads the way in many other specialty areas.”

The Sands family gift kicks off the beginning of the silent phase of Rochester General’s Bold New Future campaign to raise funds for a new patient pavilion, patient research, facility enhancements and technology advancements.

The campaign will launch in the next 12 to 18 months, hospital officials said.
This gift follows a recent major donation the Sands family made to build the Sands Family Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, which opened in October.  The 12-bed unit features private and larger rooms, proximity to the cardiac catheterization labs and connection to three dedicated cardiothoracic operating rooms.
