The state’s education commissioner visited several area schools Wednesday as part of a statewide listening tour.
David Steiner, commissioner of education, was joined by John King, senior deputy commissioner and Milton Cofield, Regents vice chancellor. The tour began at Cathedral School at Holy Rosary before moving to visit the Monroe 1 BOCES Challenger Program and the Genesee Community Charter School at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. The visit concluded with an afternoon trip to the School of the Arts.
Steiner was sworn into office Oct. 1, previously serving as dean of the Hunter College School of Education at the City University of New York. Later in the day he plans to travel to the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester to take part in a dialog on encouraging students to enter science-related fields.
