State adds, removes schools from improvement list

Two elementary schools in the Rochester City School District were removed from the New York State Education Department’s list of Schools in Need of Improvement based on 2008-09 data, while two others were added, the department announced this week.

Lincoln School No. 22 and Pinnacle School No. 3 were removed after making adequate yearly progress for two consecutive years in English Language Arts, the area in which they were identified.

Two Rochester schools were added to the list, based on the federal No Child Let Behind Act. Northeast College Preparatory High School was added for middle level ELA, and School Without Walls Commencement Academy was included for secondary ELA.

Students will be offered extra instructional services to help them make academic progress.
