The stock market showed gains Tuesday afternoon, bolstered by the latest lifeline to the auto industry, given to GMAC Financial Services LLC.
At 3 p.m., the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 109 points, or 1.3 percent, at 8592.65. The Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index rose 12.15 points, or 1.4 percent, at 881.57. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 25.49 points, or 1.7 percent, at 1,535.81.
Among stocks of local interest, Eastman Kodak Co. climbed more than 3.6 percent, and Xerox Corp. was up nearly 3 percent. Ultralife Corp. was up some 6 percent, and Gannett Co. Inc. saw an increase of more than 5 percent. VirtualScopics Inc. rose more than 6 percent.
