COMIDA OKs tax breaks for USAirports

The County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency approved assistance for USAirports Flight Support South LLC, which is purchasing Landmark Aviation, County Executive Maggie Brooks announced Tuesday.
The benefit is on $1.2 million, a portion of the overall sale price that covers the equipment portion of the purchase. The total purchase price is not public information due to a confidentiality agreement between USAirports and Landmark.
USAirports provides aviation services to the Monroe County Airport including aircraft fuel, oil line maintenance, repairs, deicing and flight support. The company has been approved for GreatRate investment incentives on the equipment purchase through the Monroe County Industrial Development Corp. and is seeking approval of the EquiPlus, which would give additional sales tax exemptions through COMIDA.
Companies that receive GreatRate or GreatRebate benefits through MCIDC for the purchase of equipment can receive an additional sales tax exemption on the purchase of that equipment through COMIDA.
“The approval of the USAirports project is significant to Monroe County because of the important aviation services they provide to the Greater Rochester International Airport,” Brooks said. “Monroe County remains committed to supporting the growth and vitality of our local companies that help improve our first-rate quality of life.”
The COMIDA meeting included a presentation by Bersin Properties LLC
regarding the Medley Centre mall in the town of Irondequoit.
The $260 million project would involve the revitalization of the existing 784,000 square foot mall and the addition of 546,000 square foot of new retail space, an application filed with COMIDA states. Bersin also plans to construct a 420-room hotel and 330 apartments along with office space and mixed-use space.
It is projected to create 600 full-time equivalent jobs, the filing states. The company is seeking some $8 million in sales tax and mortgage tax breaks.
A vote on that project is expected to come in early 2009.
