Car sales up in April

Sales of new and used vehicles in Monroe County improved last month from March and a year ago, the Rochester Automobile Dealers’ Association Inc. reported.
A total of 3,612 new cars and trucks were sold in April, up from 3,486 in March and 3,155 a year ago. Area dealers sold 1,903 used vehicles last month, compared with 1,864 in March and 1,810 in April 2007.
In addition, 5,515 new and used vehicles were sold in Monroe County last month, up more than 3 percent from 5,350 in March and more than 11 percent from 4,965 a year ago.
Area dealers have sold 19,083 new and used vehicles this year, a nearly 12 percent increase from 17,102 a year ago. New-vehicle sales are up more than 16 percent in the first four months of 2008, while used-car sales are up roughly 4 percent from last year.
RADA data does not include sales from nonmember dealers or those outside of Monroe County. RADA has revised data fro 2007 to include retail sales volume only and excludes fleet sales.
